A SHORT BIOGRAPHY
1948: Born in Riga.
1971: Finished his education in mathematics at Latvian State University.
1974: Finished postgraduate studies.
1975: Candidate (Doctor) of Physical and Mathematics Sciences in People’s Friendship University in Moscow.
1993: Granted the academic title of professor.
1993: One of the founders of the Latvian Mathematical Society.
1996-2001: Chairman of this society.
2004: Elected as Corresponding Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences.
2017: Awarded the title of Emeritus Scientist of Latvia and in the Latvian Academy of Sciences he received the Piers Bohl Prize.
2018: University of Latvia Award for establishing a scientific school.

HOMAGE IN ESCIM25
ESCIM 2025 was dedicated to the memory of Professor Alexander Šostak, an outstanding researcher and a beloved member of the ESCIM community. His remarkable contributions to mathematics and theoretical computer science have shaped the field and continue to inspire generations of researchers.
Alexander was not only a brilliant academic, but also a warm and generous person. A regular participant in many editions of ESCIM. His legacy bridges rigorous theoretical foundations with forward-looking applications — a testament to a truly remarkable academic journey.

A special session od ESCIM25 was dedicated to Professor Alexander Šostak, honoring his outstanding contributions to mathematics and theoretical computer science.
Prof. Jesús Medina from the University of Cádiz, on behalf of the ESCIM25 organization, presented a commemorative certificate «In Loving Memory of Alexander Šostak» to his family.

The certificate was delivered through Prof. Olga Grigorenko from the University of Latvia, a close collaborator and team member of Prof. Šostak.
